About the partnership with Schijvens

Schijvens Corporate Fashion gives the employees of the Netherlands pavilion a sustainable jacket.

The employees will be wearing fully recycled clothing, during Expo 2020 Dubai. This clothing is made from recycled textiles and recycled PET polyester, from old company clothing, sportswear, fishing nets and PET bottles. Denim has been chosen with – of course – red/white/blue accents and a touch of orange: hip, sustainable and Dutch!

The clothing will be taken back after the Expo and recycled again, so that Schijvens can reuse it for corporate clothing. This saves more than 90% water and at least 20% energy and 20% of CO2 emissions.

The management is also dressed in the Dutch sustainable brand SuitSupply, also a member of the Fair Wear Foundation. The sneakers that are worn are made of chrome-free leather with a vegan lining, made in collaboration with the Dutch Linkkens.

Schijvens produces circular clothing made of recycled textile and recycled PET-polyester. Since 2017, every step has been one closer to making the world more sustainable. This resulted in winning the Circular Award in February 2020 and the visit of King Willem-Alexander and Secretary of State Stientje van Veldhoven in September last year.

About Schijvens

Schijvens Corporate Fashion is a family-owned business that has designed, manufactured and distributed corporate clothing since 1863 – that is 150 years of experience and craftsmanship. They take care of their customers with a team of 100 enthusiastic employees in the office and the warehouse in the Netherlands, and the factory in Turkey. They’ve worked with McDonald’s, Hema, Ahold Delhaize, Qatar Airways and A.S. Watson.

Sustainability is in Schijvens’ DNA, as they follow a strict CSR policy with respect for people and the environment. They have an ISO14001 certificate, which includes environmentally responsible production. Additionally, they have been a member of the Dutch Covenant and the Fair Wear Foundation since 2010, which monitors the social conditions at production sites. Schijvens scores 96% and is Leader at Fair Wear, because of the great teamwork with their value chain: factories in Pakistan, India, China, Sharjah and Morocco .

Recently, they introduced their Return logistics program with PostNL, the Dutch post service. They collect old corporate clothing and transport it to the distribution center in Hilvarenbeek, where the clothing is sorted. After sorting on color and quality, and first repairing or recovering if possible, the clothing is sent to their partner recycle plant in Turkey, where it is shredded and fiberized. These textile fibers are mixed with recycled polyester fibers to make the yarn strong again. Subsequently, new yarn is spun from this, which is used to knit and weave fabric. With this fabric, new corporate clothing is made.
