Once the shell and core of the Netherlands pavilion have been erected, 50% of the pavilion will be finished. The Netherlands pavilion is essentially a miniature climate where we unite water, energy and food by bringing together a range of innovative solutions. In the middle of the pavilion, there is a big green cone fully covered in plants and vegetables. The vegetables will be watered with water harvested from the Dubai desert air. The skylights in the pavilion’s roof will provide light for the plants. Besides this, the windows contain solar cells to generate electricity using the sun. All elements of the pavilion are either reusable or biodegradable.
In line with the UAE’s National Disinfection Programme, the Expo 2020 site is closed this weekend of March 27-28, so that cleaning and sanitisation may take place at the site.
