Ali Al Janabi, Country Chairman of Shell Group of Companies in the UAE
About the partnership
Shell UAE is proud to be a “National Partner” of the Netherlands pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, the largest event ever to be staged in the Middle East.
Our involvement in Expo complements Shell’s 80-year history in the UAE, which began through an interest in the 1939 oil concession agreement with Abu Dhabi.
Shell’s history in the UAE is intertwined with the development of the country, from producing and processing oil and gas, supplying fuel to Dubai airport since the 1960s, and providing customers across the Emirates with lubricants, fuels and technologies.
Our Expo partnership with the Netherlands at Expo 2020 is a natural fit given Shell’s Dutch heritage which dates back to the merger between Shell Transport and Trading and Royal Dutch over a century ago.
Expo 2020’s three themes – opportunity, mobility and sustainability – are deeply relevant to us. Shell has thrived on providing energy, creating opportunities for people to develop and prosper. For decades our company has delivered the vital resources needed for greater global mobility. And today, sustainability is the priority for energy producers.
No surprise that we are developing some really exciting plans for it. We will host events and discussions with Shell leaders focusing on aspects of the vital role that energy plays. We will bring our Shell Scenarios team to the UAE, to introduce their possible scenarios of future energy use.
And we’re hugely proud that we will hold Shell’s flagship Make the Future event in the UAE, and the region, for the first time. It has a specific focus on engaging young people through showcasing our most innovative projects to help create a more sustainable, energy-rich, lower carbon future.
