Meiny Prins, CEO Priva

"Cities will be the drivers of the circular economy.

An integrated approach is the key to creating sustainable cities. The first step is to incorporate green belts − where a city’s food is produced − into urbanised areas. Cities need to shift their views on how to deal with food production and urbanisation. The green belt (or urban growth boundary) and food production must become an integral part of major urban developments. If cities succeed in this, residents of rapidly growing metropolises will not only have access to healthy and safe food, but they will also be able to enjoy clean air, clean energy and safe drinking water. Locally focused food production will be an inspiring and important part of the circular economy."

To inspire city authorities, mayors, architects, urban planners, entrepreneurs and individuals to re-think the development of cities, by creating space for food production for a city’s population, Meiny founded the Sustainable Urban Delta Foundation. The foundation aims to become a community where those who seek to share ideas and specific needs for sustainable initiatives can connect with one another. She believes that this will create new opportunities on a social, ecological and economic level, solving many of today’s environmental problems caused by current food production methods.
