Manon Janssen, CEO Ecorys and chair of the energy top sector team

"The transition to a sustainable energy system is one of the grand challenges faced by this generation and the next. This transition is key to slowing down climate change and mitigating its effects in order to maintain a liveable planet and live within the boundaries of available resources.

In the Netherlands we have been working on the energy transition for over a decade. The energy top sector drives innovation forward in a uniquely collaborative manner. Nearly 2,000 companies, knowledge institutes and regional governments are working together with national government to enable the new technologies required to create a truly sustainable energy system.

Achieving this requires relentless efforts, often involving scenarios and investments that span decades. Unlike the current coronavirus crisis, climate change and the energy transition are chronic crises. Especially now, we must not give up on our goals. Instead, we must use the current crisis to accelerate the change in how we source, transport and use energy.

This is only possible by working together. None of us can do this alone. Together, we can – and will – succeed."
